Last Wright

Black History Month is an appropriate time to explore the works of notable African-American writers, among them the award-winning author Richard Wright. Born on a Mississippi plantation in1908, Wright captured the pain and anguish of racial discrimination in such works as the autobiographical novel Native Son . The centennial of Wright's birth saw the publication of A Father's Law ,an unfinished crime novel. Wright's final published work challenges theconcept of law and masculinity within the relationship of father and son, cop and criminal. With an introduction by Wright's daughter and literary executor, Julia, A Father's Law is a moving exploration of the racial, class and generational conflicts faced by African Americans.
