Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially enter the Boston Marathon (1967), was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame on October 1, 2011. She broke the gender barrier and paved the way  for women in running. She still runs and today and is an award-winning television commentator. Her book, Marathon Woman, is available at the library as well as this 2011 selection Running for Women.
