Library Catalog, Holds & Renewals

To place a reserve you will need yourlibrary card number and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN/password protects the security of your library account.

No PIN/password? Visit any OCPL public library and a library staff memberwill be happy to help you in the set-up process. It takes only a moment.

  1. Click "My Account" in the top left of this page.
  2. Enter your library barcode number in the box marked "Barcode Number," enter your PIN in the other box.
  3. Click "Search."
  4. Search for the book you want to reserve (see previous "How Do I" on how to find a book)
  5. Click "Place Hold" below the title you want.
  6. Select your pickup location. ("Patron Library" is where you got your card.) Click "Submit." A confirmation message will appear.
  7. (You may get the message: "Requests are not permitted for this title. Contact the library for assistance." This may mean that the title is a reference item or for one reason or another may not circulate. On the other hand it may mean the item is new and in "Local Holds Only " status. In that case you may still be able to place a hold on it. See * below.)
  8. Click Return to Search Results.
  9. Click "Logout" when you are finished.
  10. You will be notified when the item is at the pickup library.
  11. If you chose to be notified with a phone call, you will get a call from one of the following numbers: 435-1947,435-1429, or 435-1431. 435-1430 is the inbound automated service that you can call for information, and to renew.
  12. If you chose to be notified by email, add This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to your "safe list" to make sure you receive it.

* To place a hold on any item in "Local Holds Only" status, go back to your search results.
Click "Find It" to get a list of owning libraries.
Find a library that owns the book. Remember the name of the owning library.
Login to your account. Enter your barcode number and PIN.

Change your pickup library to the name of the library that owns the book you want.

Click Submit Request.
This means you will have to travel to that library to pick up the item. If there are requests ahead of you, you will be told how many. You will be asked if you still want to place the request.

You can manage your hold requests at any time using the "My Account" tab at the top right of the Polaris catalog.

To see the items you have on hold

If you are not logged in to Polaris, follow login steps above, then:

  1. Click the "My Account" tab at the top center of the page.
  2. Click "Holds. "
  3. Click "Logout" when you are finished.

To cancel a hold

  1. Click the box next to the item to place a check mark in the box
  2. Click "Cancel Request. "
  3. Click Logout when you are finished.

Hold Status terms:

Active - Your request for the item is active. The library you designated for pick-up will receive the item when it is available.
Inactive- Your request for an in-system item has been placed butwill not take effect until a future date. For an out-of-system item, the library must review the request before it is sent.
Pending - The item has been requested for you, but the loaning library has not sent it yet.

Shipped - The item is on its way from the loaning library to your pick-up library.
Held - The item you requested has been located and you can expect a notification that it is available for pick up.
Cancelled - The request was cancelled.
Received- An out-of-system ("interlibrary loan") item is in the pick-up library and is ready for you tocheck out. (After you check out an interlibrary loan item the requestis no longer displayed.)
Not-supplied - There are no items to fill your request.
