NYLA 2022

Public librarians have long recognized the challenges students encounter trying to access library resources. The pandemic only heightened the issues of equity, access, and the digital divide. To mediate this problem, the Liverpool Public Library approached the Liverpool Central School District about partnering on a pilot program to provide every PK-12 grade student with a virtual library card. By removing the barriers associated with obtaining a traditional library card, ‘Pool Pass’ provides equitable access to LPL’s resources, ensuring that our collections are an integral part of a student’s learning experience. This project was not launched overnight; it took over a year to get all the pieces in place to begin the pilot. ‘Pool Pass’ is a collaborative effort. From initial concept to proposals, technical trials, MOUS, and publicity, participants will leave with an understanding of the resources and personnel needed to create a comprehensive program.

Thank you for attending our presentation, "Expanding Student Access with ‘Pool Pass."
